OAJ uses the Vibemeter to collect teachers' feelings
All OAJ members were invited in August to register for the Style Meter, and so far around 9,000 teachers are anonymously answering the weekly questions online. Teachers talk about the meaning of their work, their successes at work, their great students and their supportive colleagues. Many also talk about being busy and having too much work.
Teachers want respect and resources from decision-makers, and salaries that are commensurate with the demands of the job. In an article in Teacher magazine, an early childhood teacher expressed the hope that early childhood leaders would build open and learning work communities. Not the kind where the worker needs courage to address grievances, but the kind where solutions are justified in an open, pedagogical and research-based way. "The OAJ uses knowledge to improve the well-being of its members"
Interactive measurement provides a huge amount of information
The OAJ shows an example of how to understand and develop the well-being at work of one professional group through interactive measurement and discussion. The measurement generates tens of thousands of comments on current well-being at work topics. So far, the OAJ's Well-being at Work Month has collected 500,000 reactions on teachers' well-being at work. This information will help the OAJ to improve the well-being of its members.
