Positive feedback is fuel for good teamwork
In developing team well-being, it is important to emphasise positive resources. A positive emotional and motivational state at work is needed, a sense of enthusiasm and joy, known as "work suction". In the work community, it is important to recognise, support, encourage and reward successful tasks. People need positive attention and it also helps them to overcome difficult situations.
At Vibemetrics, we developed a tool for our service, the Mood Meter Praise, to increase personal, regular positive communication in the workplace. It's a very simple and easy way to make a colleague, manager or team happy.
Multiply the number of positive experiences
In her book Work Wellbeing, Marja-Liisa Manka, PhD, PhD, PhD, writes how positivity has been shown to have an impact on cognitive and social functioning, creativity, the experience of community and interaction, and people's mental and physical wellbeing in general. It is important that positive emotions are experienced many times more than negative ones, because negative emotions are more intense. Research has also shown that empathy and the ability to perceive and understand the feelings of others increases happiness. Manka refers to a study by Fischer 2012, which found, among other things, that positive behaviour by managers serves as a role model for all staff; enthusiasm, energy and compassion are contagious.
The secret to good teamwork is empathy
The organisations of the future will thrive if they focus on those things where human qualities are most important, and where the machine is bad. Creative thinking, imagination, empathy and problem solving are areas to invest in. The brain scientist Katri Saarikivi has spoken extensively on the subject. Her research has explored how empathy and emotions could also be conveyed online. Remote teamwork is a daily reality for many. When we communicate via digital connections, emotions are poorly transmitted. But research shows that the secret to good teamwork is empathy and quality of interaction. These have been found to enhance problem solving and team success.
